| Omar Porras |
|
Swiss-colombian director and actor of Teatro Malandro -created in Geneva in 1990- Omar Porras has the peculiarity of directing drama and opera. Nourished by South American culture, familiar with several mask games practiced around the world, well-acquainted with dance and music, he has developed a form of drama that can be referred to as a “strange and marvelous trip”: a quest for the conception of a masked character, shaped by a rich and complex story based on a written text. His shows abound with an energy that galvanizes and exhilarates. This energy is created by the actors themselves, metamorphosed, transformed in inventive creatures, human and super human, who report funny or tragic simple events, rendered extraordinary and ultra dramatized by the trickery of masks and gestures. With this sort of transformation of the actors, Omar Porras explores great myths; such as Bakkhantes, Don Quixote, Faustus or evenDon Juan approaching them from his multicultural background, both south American and European. |
